Question: How do I upload a document?

Answer:

The instructions cover uploading documents to lockers or locker folders so you can make them downloadable from one of your web pages. If you want to upload your class handouts for the Downloads section on the right side of your main web page, you can more specific instructions under How do I upload my syllabus or other handout?

In general, there are four uses for uploaded files:

  1. To store a file so you can put a link to it in a Rich Text element on one of your web pages.
  2. To store a file in a locker so it will appear in a Locker element on one of your web pages.
  3. To upload an image that will be displayed in a Rich Text element on one of your web pages.
  4. To upload an image that will be displayed in a slideshow on one of your web pages.

Choice #1 is recommended over choice #2 (see Should I put a locker or rich text on my web page?). The instructions below cover both cases.

For cases #3 and #4, see the separate instructions under How do I upload a photo, clipart, or other image?

1 Go to your main web page.
2 Click the Resource Files button.
3 You can upload directly into your locker, or click a locker folder to upload into a specific folder or subfolder. To create your own locker folders to organize your documents, see Can I reorganize my locker?
4 Hover over the ADD RESOURCES button to open the menu. Don't click the ADD RESOURCES button, just point at it.
5 Click File.
6 Type the title of the document, e.g., "Course Syllabus".

Click the Browse or Choose File button and navigate to your syllabus or other document.

Click the Upload button.

7 Click your name at the top of the page to go back to your web page. If you see a Return to Edit button in the top right, you can click it instead.
8 Uploading a document puts it in your locker but doesn't necessarily put it on your web page.

To put a download link on your page when you are using Rich Text elements, see How do I make a link download a file? in the Links section.

If you are using a Locker element on your web page, the file is added to your web page automatically as soon as it's uploaded.
