You should update your website whenever the information on it is out-of-date or you have something new to tell students or their parents.
At the start of each school year you should review your website, fill in your class schedule, and make sure handouts and other information are correct. You should update it again anytime your basic information changes, e.g., room, schedule of classes, syllabus.
How often you update it during each semester depends on what you put on your site. If you post news and assignments then you'll be updating your website regularly. It will take more work to maintain your website but the benefits (students and parents who have weekly or daily class information) may be worth it.
Examples
- If you post assignments or maintain a calendar, keep them up-to-date
- If you post grades, the update schedule is up to you, but let students and parents know how often you plan to update grades so they'll know how often to check.
- If you post a wishlist, remove items from the list (or mark them "received") when you get items from the list, so you won't receive duplicates.
